I can’t believe this has been our first full week in our new home. When we originally moved to San Diego a year ago we found ourselves having to find an apartment that we could afford and be available within a couple of months. My husband had accepted a new position at his job, causing us to relocate from Ventura in under two months – which proved quick. Thankfully, downtown San Diego had a variety of options but it wasn’t until we moved that we realized that perhaps we made a living decision a little too quickly.
Even though it wasn’t the best fit for us as a family, we made it a year and in that time we realized what we wanted which was to be away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, the homeless that’s present, and traffic (especially when the Padres were playing). Also, having a busy toddler we were limited in where we could take him aside from the New Children’s Museum and Balboa Park (which we had to drive to). So, we were eager to begin looking elsewhere as we approached the end of our lease.
This past summer I accepted a position as a kindergarten English teacher at a French-American bilingual school located in La Jolla, which prompted us to take an honest look at the area. After a few tours of a couple of different places, we found the perfect community for us as a family. It’s quiet, our unit will hold our massive (custom built) sectional pull-out sofa, and we’re in a position to save money. Also, it shaves about 20 minutes and traffic off of my commute!
But, much like any move, the first couple of months are all about getting situated, organizing, and adding things to the home to make it feel more intimate and personal. I have so many ideas and inspirations for our home and I can’t wait to share them here soon!
Here’s a peek at our newest moving announcements!
Our family over the years has somewhat created a joke that we can’t seem to sit still for very long. Without meaning to, we find ourselves moving at least once a year. When we lived in Ventura for four years, within that time we bounced around 3 times to different units! Ridiculous, right? Okay, a little bit…
However, now that we’re in San Diego and have found a place we sincerely feel as though we could build a life, we are hopeful we can call this little unit home for the next few years. And with our move we needed moving announcements to share our new address with friends and family. Although there are plenty of beautiful designs out there, I couldn’t find anything that was playful and reflected us as a family. So, I set out to design my own!
I had a lot of fun with this project because I was able to find a way to capture our family as an illustration – even our Murphy-dog. I love the minimalist look and simplicity of us just holding boxes.
But, why should I be the only one with cute announcements? Now, you can order your own custom illustrated moving announcements that reflect your family – even pets!
